DUBLIN, IRELAND.
Life on the road…
So, I find myself in Germany. For the first time in my touring career, I have finally made it to Germany. Being a self-confessed ‘tourist-nerd’ or ‘culture vulture’, I’ve been loving travelling the countryside and exploring the bigger towns and cities too. Although the schedule is pretty hectic on this tour and there’s not a huge amount of time to spend with my map and phrasebook, I’ve managed to fit in a visit to the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the Hamburg pier, the eye-opening Reeperbahn and the Bach museum in Leipzig. I’m not exactly living up to my knick-name – ‘Hi-dee-hi’, which was bestowed upon me by a dancer some years ago following her dream about me organising an excursion for everybody and knocking on their bedroom doors to wake them up, with my hair in pigtails and an old fashioned knapsack on my back; an image I think is not far from the truth!
My German is coming on fine too. You’d never think I studied German for six years, as what I manage to speak here is fairly elementary, if enough to get me by - ‘where is the nearest café?’, ‘can I please have the wi-fi code?’, ‘can you take me to x hotel?’, ‘how much does that cost?’, ‘I’d like a chicken salad’ etc… and the running joke for me on this tour and my clumsy spilling of coffee & drinks: ‘Kannst du mir helfen? Ich habe einen Unfall gehabt’. Isn’t it funny that you can always understand more than you can say? I do love understanding Germans speaking when they think you can’t!
There’s not a whole lot of time left on this short tour, but it’s the perfect length to visit a country, meet some new people, do some singing and get back home to keep working on my new project. This is a very exciting project that I’ve been working on for the last three years! It’s certainly been a long time coming. The parts that are out of my control are finally starting to come together - the wait has been agonising! But hopefully very soon, I will be able to share the news … and most importantly, the music!
In the meantime, if you’re not already on the mailing list, leave your e-mail address and you’ll be first to hear of news, releases and dates.
